Work on judicial complex in Diamer starts

GILGIT, May 19: The Chief Justice of the Chief Court of Gilgit-Baltistan Justice Sahib Khan laid the foundation stone of the long-awaited judicial complex at Chilas, headquarters of Diamer district on Saturday.

The establishment of judicial complex will facilitate both judicial officers and the public.

Public works department officials stated the project will also include setting up residential colony for the judges. The project will cost over Rs58 million and will be completed within two years.

Officials said the Diamer district bar association members apprised the chief justice of the issues facing them. The chief justice assured them of resolving their problems.

TIMBER DISPOSAL: The forest department has starting disposing of two million feet illegally cut timber lying in various points of Diamer district. The federal government had framed a timber disposal policy under which the owners of timber were allowed to transport the timber to any place of the country after payment of fine according to specified rates.

The forest officials said fine on per foot of deodar will be Rs700 while fine on other kinds of timber will be Rs260.

Similarly, those transporting timber to districts of GB will have to deposit Rs220 against per foot of deodar and Rs100 against other kinds of wood. Time span for transportation can be extended, the official said.http://dawn.com/2013/05/20/work-on-judicial-complex-in-diamer-starts/
