report in Daily Times, Dec 31, 2023
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) released on Saturday a comprehensive report detailing the remarkable achievements of the country’s security forces in countering terrorism during the year 2023.

The report underscored the success of 18,736 intelligence-based operations conducted across the country, resulting in the elimination of 566 terrorists and the apprehension of 5,161 others.

Afghanistan’s role in terrorism nexus revealed: The fabric and evidence of recent terrorist incidents have been traced back to sanctuaries in Afghanistan, according to the ISPR report.

This revelation further emphasised the transnational nature of the terrorism challenge faced by Pakistan.

Highlighting a significant shift, the report notes that due to the effective operations of intelligence agencies, key commanders, Gulzar Imam Shambe and Sarfaraz Bengalzai, of the Baloch National Army have renounced terrorism and reintegrated into the national mainstream.

Balochistan witnessed 15,063 intelligence-based operations, resulting in the neutralisation of 109 terrorists.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab targeted: The security forces intensified their efforts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab, conducting 1,942 and 190 intelligence-based operations respectively. This proactive approach led to the elimination of 447 terrorists in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, while 10 were neutralized in Punjab.

The ISPR report acknowledged the sacrifices made by Pakistan’s security forces and the public in the relentless war against terrorism. More than 260 officers and soldiers of the Pakistan Army, including over 1,000 individuals, lost their lives in terrorist attacks, highlighting the human cost of the ongoing conflict.

Despite the challenges, the report expresses optimism for the future, stating that the sacrifices made will pave the way for a period of peace and stability.
