Residents of Wethalawa village in the Central province find themselves in a state of distress and fear as they grapple with a perplexing and eerie phenomenon – mysterious noises emanating from beneath the earth’s surface near the Kothmale reservoir.
Concerned about these unexplained sounds, the local community has taken the step of reporting the situation to the National Building Research Organization (NBRO).
Meanwhile, geological experts have weighed in, positing that the sounds may be connected to pressure in the underground water table, but a definitive explanation can only be ascertained through a rigorous geological investigation or research employing available methods.
Others have listed potential reasons for these underground noises, such as wave propagation, seismic waves resulting from underground rock fractures, or pressure releases in groundwater through geologically weak zones, all of which could contribute to instability in the ground. https://www.themorning.lk/articles/J8AyuLNwQoEnLLK6Sad6
