PPP promises Hunza better roads

HUNZA, Nov 9: While PPP leaders promised on Monday to provide all resources for the development of Hunza, MQM representatives accused the PPP-led government of resorting to pre-poll rigging by misusing BISP funds. They were addressing election rallies at different places in Hunza. Syed Khursheed Shah, Federal Minister for Labour and Manpower, addressing gatherings in Aliabad and Gulmit as part of the election campaign of PPP candidate Wazir Baig, said that Hunza would be compensated in Gilgit-Baltistan assembly through a technocrat seat. He said the new assembly would decide about the additional seat.

Mr Shah said the government had given provincial status to the Gilgit-Baltistan and more funds would be allocated to speed up development of the region.

Dr Arbab Alamgir Khan, Federal Minister for Communications, assured the locals of immediate payment of the compensation money to the people affected by the expansion of the KKH. He said he would also order for preparing feasibility reports of roads for the far-flung areas of Chipurson, Misgar and Shimshal valleys.

Babar Minhas, president PPP Islamabad chapter, announced to put up a proposal before the party leadership as regards declaring Shinaki as district and also assured restart of construction work on Shinaki bridge. He also announced scholarships for needy students from Hunza through Baitul Mal.

Addressing the gatherings, Wazir Baig demanded an additional seat for Hunza in the assembly, a cadet college, 25-bed hospital in Sost, provision of staff at Gulmit hospital, construction of roads for Shimshal and Chipurson, construction of power stations, employment of youth, great water scheme for central Hunza, rehabilitation of the affected people in Attabad and establishment of a technical institute and KIU campus in Hunza.
