Next Government will be led by the UNP: Akila Viraj

I would like to state that the next Government will be led by the United National Party (UNP) under the leadership of President Ranil Wickremesinghe, said the assistant leader of the UNP, Akila Viraj Kariyawasam.

He mentioned this at a UNP public gathering held in Kurunegala yesterday (27).

“There are no queues for petrol and gas and no power interruptions, prices of good have been reduced recently , petrol and diesel prices will reduce in the upcoming days” stated Akila Viraj Kariyawasam.

He further mentioned that a welfare programme to provide relief to the public was being implemented step by step.

“All parties will gather around the UNP, and more groups will join in. Most members of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) have pledged their support to the president work plan,” he said.

“If a presidential election takes place in the future , we must work together,” he concluded.

Cabinet nod for fuel distribution by three foreign companies

Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera announced yesterday that the Cabinet of Ministers has granted approval for allowing China’s Sinopec, Australia’s United Petroleum and RM Parks of the USA, in collaboration with multinational Oil and Gas Company – Shell plc, to enter the fuel retail market in Sri Lanka.

The minister said that each of the three companies would be given 150 dealer operated fuel stations, which are currently operated by Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC). A further 50 fuel stations at new locations will be established by each selected company, he said.

They will be granted licences to operate for 20 years to import, store, distribute and sell petroleum products in Sri Lanka, the minister tweeted.
