Mirpuris demand basic facilities

MIRPUR: Visiting expatriates and local residents of Mirpur have demanded the government to provide them basic civic amenities.

The locals have expressed concern over the lack of streetlights and hygienic drinking water facility in the city, which is arguably the most developed city of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), and have demanded that the government improve the dilapidated sewerage system.

Locals said that even though lampposts were installed on the central Allama Iqbal Road three years back, the streetlights provide very dim light due to the insufficient power supply.

On the issue of streetlights, a senior officer of the Municipal Development Authority refused to take the blame. He said the authority is only responsible for developing and maintaining new housing sectors in the city and adjoining hamlets, adding that the matter of streetlight falls under the control of Mirpur Municipal Corporation.

The locals have urged the government to provide them the faciliies by utilising the city’s annual development funds. http://tribune.com.pk/story/389260/uplift-needed-mirpuris-demand-basic-facilities
