KKH blocked to protest load shedding

MANSEHRA: Hundreds of people on Wednesday blocked the Karakoram Highway (KKH) to protest prolonged power outages in the city and its suburbs.

The protesters holding banners and placards marched on various roads and gathered at the KKH, blocking it for vehicular traffic for sometime. The protesters were raising slogans against the government and Wapda and said if loadshedding was not ended they would be left with no option, but to resort to more serious measures to voice protest.

President of traders body Mohammad Rafique and others speaking on the occasion said the businesses had been affected due to the 18-hour loadshedding. “Despite prolonged loadshedding in the town, the people are forced to pay inflated bills,” said Rafique.

Meanwhile, the Wapda employees also staged a rally against proposed privatization of the entity. Speaking on the occasion, office-bearers of Wapda unions Qazi Jamil, Zahir Khan, Khalid Rasheed and other said the government had hatched a conspiracy to pit people against Wapda employees.

“If government wants it could increase the power production but this prolonged loadshedding is a conspiracy to disgrace Wapda and its employees and ultimately capture Wapda’s assets in the name of privatisation,” said Qazi Jamil. http://www.thenews.com.pk/Todays-News-2-107440-KKH-blocked-to-protest-loadshedding
