GB students take out rally to condemn Dassu massacre

Islamabad: Extremely aggrieved over the killing of 18 innocent people in Dassu, the students of Gilgit-Baltistan who are residing in twin cities staged a sit-in cum protest rally from Aabpara Chowk to the National Press Club on Saturday.

The students held placards and chanted slogans against the government for its alleged incompetence to provide security to innocent people travelling on the Karakorom Highway (KKH). The protesters also demanded that the alleged perpetrators be brought to the book.

Addressing the protesters, a representative of Balawaristan National Students Organisation (BNSO) Faizullah Faraq said that the government has failed to provide security to its own people and demanded of the government to ensure safety of the people travelling on the Silk Route. “If government cannot even afford to ensure our right to life than it has no right to rule us,” he added. He slammed the Gilgi-Baltistan government for failing to maintain law and order situation in the region.

He alleged that the state institutions were trying to divide the masses of the region for their own interests. “Whenever the masses of the region stand united to voice their grievances, any such incident happens and the society falls into deep chaos and looses its track,” he maintained.

He warned that the ‘hidden hands’ searching for strategic depths in mercenaries stop their nefarious designs or the masses will revolt against them. “We want to convey this message to the deep state not to attempt to create a Balochistan like situation in Gilgit-Baltistan, the masses can no more be fooled,” he added.

The representative of the Progressive Youth Front lambasted the government for what he termed usurping every basic democratic right of the masses.
