GB deserves more attention from Islamabad

GILGIT, July 9: The deputy secretary information of Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf Dr Israr Shah has said the Gilgit-Baltistan region deserves more attention from Islamabad.

Speaking to media persons at Gilgit Press Club on Monday he said the backwardness in the area was part of international conspiracy and government should focus on the area for its accelerated uplift. He criticised the government for promoting corruption, saying time had come to wage struggle against such elements.

Mr Shah said a think-tank of the PTI had been tasked to frame a policy on how could the problems of the people of the region could be resolved. He said if the PTI came in power the party would trace and hang the killers of late Benazir Bhutto.

ATTABAD LAKE: The Chief Minister Syed Mehdi Shah has instructed the Frontier Works Organisation to accelerate pace of work on release of water from Attabad lake which has paralysed life in upper Hunza.

Speaking to reporters in Hunza on Monday, the chief minister said work on a truck-able road from Karakuram Highway to spillway of the lake was in full swing and would complete by mid August.

Mr Mehdi Shah said after completion of this road the traders would have access to lake and could easily transport their goods.

LIBRARY UPGRADED: The US Agency for International Aid (USAID) has upgraded the ancient and historical library of Gilgit.

The US Mission’s Deputy Director Ms Karen Freeman together with her colleagues on Monday visited the library and also cut the ribbon as a gesture of goodwill.

Ms Karen Freeman expressed her pleasure over the treasure of valuable books in the city library and said reading combines past and future and improves mind to decide things wisely.

She pledged more help as far as establishment of more libraries were concerned.

The USAID had provided $30,000 which were spent on procurement of four computers, two scanners, two printers, internet connection, generator, library software, two card catalogue cabinets.
