Elders to visit Diamer to evolve strategy

MANSEHRA: A 70-member delegation of elders and Ulema from Kohistan would visit the Diamer district of Gilgit-Baltistan in a couple of days to evolve a joint strategy to avert incidents like the Harban bus attack in which 16 Shia passengers were killed by gunmen wearing military uniforms.

The selection of 70 elders and Ulema was made at a grand Jirga, which was also attended by District Coordination Officer (DCO) Aqil Badshah and District Police Officer (DPO) Mohammad Ilyas at Dassu in Kohistan on Sunday.

The participants of the Jirga condemned the brutal killing of 16 people at Harban on February 28 and reiterated their resolve to extend support in arresting the perpetrators of the heinous crime.

Maulana Dildar, a former provincial minister and head of the delegation, told reporters that the district administration of Diamer had also constituted a Jirga of elders and ulema to hold talks with elders from Kohistan at Chilas on March 13 or 14.

Maulana Dildar said a conspiracy couldn’t be ruled out in the Harban carnage to create animosity between the residents of Gilgit-Baltistan and Kohistan. “We will foil all conspiracies to disturb peace in the area,” he added.

Maulana Dildar said the Jirga members want peace and tranquillity in Gilgit-Baltistan as it also affects Kohistan. He said that delegates of both sides would discuss means and ways of arresting culprits involved in the Harban attack.  http://www.thenews.com.pk/Todays-News-2-97219-Elders-to-visit-Diamer-to-evolve-strategy
