‘Disqualification reference against AJK PM soon’: by Tariq Naqash in Dawn, April 24

MUZAFFARABAD, April 23: Leader of the opposition in AJK Legislative Assembly and PML-N AJK chapter president Raja Farooq Haider on Monday announced to file a disqualification reference against Prime Minister Chaudhry Abdul Majeed for his alleged remarks against the superior judiciary of Pakistan.

“Mr Majeed has used highly objectionable language against the honourable judges of the apex court which is unbecoming of a person holding the office of prime minister.

“In doing so he has rendered himself disqualified from the membership of the Legislative Assembly,” he said at a press conference here.

It may be mentioned here that Friday’s AJK editions of various Urdu newspapers quoted Majeed as making distasteful remarks against the apex court and its judges during a public meeting in Palandari a day ago.

“The judiciary in Pakistan is conspiring against the government by attempting to conduct the trial of Benazir Bhutto’s grave,” Mr Majeed had reportedly said. He was also quoted as making some too harsh to publish comment against the judges.

Three days after the alleged comments, prime minister’s spokesman Murtaza Durrani tried to control damage by claiming in a statement that the PM had not made any comments amounting to contempt of court and that he held the judiciary in high esteem.

“In fact Mr Majeed had taken part in a protest demonstration in front of the Parliament during the movement for restoration of independent judiciary in Pakistan,” the spokesman recalled.

However, the PML-N chief claimed they had obtained the footage of his address which they would present at the appropriate forum.

Mr Haider further said the disqualification reference would be submitted to the Legislative Assembly speaker Sardar Ghulam Sadiq to be forwarded by him to the Election Commission.http://dawn.com/2012/04/24/disqualification-reference-against-ajk-pm-soon/
