Curfew to be relaxed in Gilgit today: By Farooq Ahmed in Dawn, Apr 12

GILGIT: A curfew imposed in Gilgit on April 3 would be relaxed for three hours on Thursday from 2pm.

Meanwhile, people released by kidnappers on Tuesday left Gilgit for their native areas on Wednesday. They were seen off by Assistant Commissioner Usman Ahmed. The hostages belonged to Shangla in Hazara division and some areas of Punjab.

Thirty-four people were kidnapped from Hunza after sectarian clashes claimed at least 14 lives in Gilgit and Chilas on April 3.

Talking to reporters in the hotel where they had stayed overnight, the hostages spoke about the ordeal they had gone through.

“I cannot believe that I am alive. The kidnappers were highly trained people. They blindfolded us and took us to Sumayar valley of Nagar subdivision and tortured us,” said one of them.

He said they divided us in three groups, changed four locations and gave us food two days after kidnapping.

“We were given electric shocks,” said another hostage.

“God has saved our lives. We will never come back to this area,” said Mohammad Khan, who works in a flour mill.http://dawn.com/2012/04/12/curfew-to-be-relaxed-in-gilgit-today/
