Crackdown on narcotics: 235,689 cannabis plants detected

The police have taken into custody 235,689 cannabis plants during countrywide search operation carried out in the 24 hours that ended at 00.30 on Saturday morning, police said in a media statement.

The raids were a part of an ongoing operation to crack down on narcotics, police said.

The police took into custody 692 grams of heroin, 393 grams of crystal methamphetamine, 42.1 kilos of cannabis, and large stocks of other narcotics at the same time.

Police arrested 1,676 people with narcotics. About 112 of them had been sent to rehabilitation centres, the police said.

This is the sixth day of the anti-drug raids and over 11,500 people have been arrested for drug-related offences.
