ISLAMABAD: Reacting to the suspension of Gilgit-Baltistan chief secretary and Inspector General of Police (IGP) by the federal government over the killing of nine tourists and a Pakistani national, Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Syed Mehdi Shah on Monday said the action was not acceptable to him.

Mehdi has sent a letter to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in which he pointed out a number of problems facing his government. He said resources should be provided to him for establishing peace in the area. Mehdi said despite being chief minister he did not have a helicopter to visit the site of bloodbath at Nanga Parbat base camp where the tourists were killed.

Talking to The News over phone from Gilgit, the GB chief minister said he met with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on June 20 and told him that Gilgit-Baltistan was not a plain but hilly area and they needed resources and at least one helicopter to do the needful.

He said it was very easy to talk in the National Assembly but their problems should be noted. Mehdi said in his letter he had told the prime minister that the chief secretary and IGP were working to his satisfaction and their suspension was not acceptable.

The GB chief minister said he had not yet received any order of suspension of chief secretary and IGP from the prime minister or the Establishment Division and he had no knowledge of their suspension. However, he said he had asked the premier that both these officers were performing well in Gilgit-Baltistan and they should be allowed to continue.

He said the chief secretary was in Islamabad on the call of the federation for an important meeting. “The IG has also been in Islamabad as his father is extremely ill and he is on leave. We are working in a very difficult situation but you are creating problems for us instead of giving us resources,” said Mehdi Shah in his letter.

He said Secretary Interior Chaudhry Qamar Zaman also remained chief secretary Gilgit-Baltistan and he was also well aware of their problems.Mehdi said he had been demanding a helicopter for three days to visit the site of massacre but nobody was listening to him. http://www.thenews.com.pk/Todays-News-13-23722-Chief-secretary-IGP-suspension-not-acceptable-says-GB-CM
