AJK to bolster security for foreigners: the Dawn, Feb 15

MUZAFFARABAD, Feb 14: AJK Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider said on Sunday that a comprehensive security plan for the protection of foreigners, particularly the Chinese, executing mega development projects in Kashmir would be devised within three weeks in consultation with the government, Wapda and other construction companies.

Mr Haider was talking to journalists on his return from Chattar Klas, located some 20 kilometres south of Muzaffarabad, where Interior Minister Rehman Malik, Wapda Chairman Shakil Durrani and Chinese Ambassador Luo Zhaohui had arrived to have firsthand knowledge of the pace of construction work, security plan as well as problems of the families affected by the execution of Neelum Jhelum Hydropower Project (NJHP).

Prime Minister Haider said the security of Chinese workers, who were undertaking a number important projects in power, communications and urban development sectors in AJK, had been thoroughly discussed with the visitors following which it was decided to prepare a comprehensive security plan.

The interior minister had given assurance to resolve the problems of AJK police personnel, including their capacity building and provision of latest security equipment, he said.

He said the AJK government had so far acquired and handed over possession of 3,000 kanals land to Wapda for the NJHP, whereas handing over of another 68 kanals was on cards.

Mr Haider said as the government of Pakistan was building five water reservoirs he had asked Wapda to reconstruct and redevelop Zilzal lake, which would have storage capacity of 20,000 acre feet water. http://www.dawn.com/wps/wcm/connect/dawn-content-library/dawn/the-newspaper/national/ajk-to-bolster-security-for-foreigners-520
