AJK govt to accept Kashmir Council’s decision on deposed chief justice

The Daily Times
LAHORE: Azad Jammu Kashmir (AJK) President Raja Zulqarnain Khan and Prime Minister (PM) Raja Farooq Haider have decided to accept the Kashmir Council’s decision about dysfunctional AJK chief justice Riaz Akhtar Chaudhry, a private TV channel reported on Sunday.

Zulqarnain and Haider made the decision during a meeting held in Muzaffarabad to discuss the ongoing judicial crisis, the channel reported without quoting any official from the AJK.

It is pertinent to mention here that one of the two supreme judicial councils currently working in the state has dispatched its decision on a reference against the dysfunctional AJK CJ to Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, who is also the chairman of the Kashmir Council.

Under Article 42E-6 of the AJK constitution of 1974, the Kashmir Council chairman has the constitutional right to remove the chief justice of the AJK Supreme Court (SC) from his office for breaching the oath. www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp?page=2010\04\19\story_19-4-2010_pg7_4
