President of Jathika Sangha Sabawa, Ven. Liyanwala Sasana Rathana Thera said a group of Buddhist monks who supported politicians should also be held accountable for Sri Lanka’s current unfortunate state, along with politicians and State sector employees.
Noting that no one can escape that responsibility, he said these politicians beg for the Maha Sangha’s and public support but once they get the opportunity to enter Parliament what they only do is get at least ten liquor licences.
“Becoming an MP comes with a plethora of other benefits and privileges. That is why these people beg for votes to get elected to Parliament. And then the people have to beg these corrupt politicians to deliver the service they are supposed to do. These politicians who ruled the country are directly responsible for the country’s current unfortunate situation,” he said.
The Ven. Thera made these remarks as the keynote speaker at a recent programme to provide school supplies to students at Kosgama High School in Pahathadumbara.
He said not only politicians who ruled the country for the past 60 years, but also State Sector employees, should be held accountable.
“These public-sector employees never considered serving the public. They were always taking their pay and engaging in fraud and corruption. Some State employees believed that even if the country went into crisis, if they could survive, that was all that mattered,” he said. https://ceylontoday.lk/2023/01/09/liyanwala-rathana-thera-lambasts-monks-politicians/
