Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said the contents of the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution should be passed as they are and the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) will support the amendment based on several conditions.
The conditions include, when appointing members of the civil society to the Constitution Council, the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition should choose them in agreement, the ban on dual citizens becoming a Member of Parliament should remain the same and the power of the President to dissolve Parliament in two and a half years should remain.
The Opposition Leader said the SJB will not disagree with anything and everything the government proposes. “Even while being in the Opposition, the SJB will always prioritise the best interest of the people,”Premadasa added.
