‘40MAF water wasted yearly due to absence of reservoirs’: report in the News, July 5

FAISALABAD: Speakers at a seminar have said that Pakistan is wasting 40MAF water annually by dumping it back to the sea because of lack of reservoirs.

The seminar on environmental awareness was organised by the Government College University Faisalabad’s Department of Environmental Sciences in collaboration with the Punjab Youth Council and an NGO here on Thursday.

Speaking on the occasion, acting Vice-Chancellor and Faculty of Science and Technology Dean Dr Naureen Aziz Qureshi said that Pakistan had become the water scare country with 1,000 cubic water per person and was placed in the list of red zone in terms of per capita water availability.

She stressed the need to mobilise the public on the issue by creating awareness among them to save water for the coming generation. She was of the view that the environmental issues had started taking a nasty turn in shape of global warming, depletion of ozone layer and melting of glaciers. Director Administration Ch Muhammad Mushtaq urged the students to mobilise the society on the issue.http://www.thenews.com.pk/Todays-News-2-187905-40MAF-water-wasted-yearly-due-to-absence-of-reservoirs
