GILGIT, Aug 27: Politicians belonging to both ruling and opposition parties on Monday called for taking strict measures to ensure protection to lives and properties of people.
Speaker Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly Wazir Baig said situation was getting out of the control of the government and it was time to take some stern and serious action to establish peace and tranquility in the region. Talking to this correspondent he said local people were involved in violent acts but unfortunately they were not taken to task.
The speaker said the concerned quarters should adopt measures for the security of public or else chaos and unrest would reign supreme.
Opposition leader Haji Janbaz Khan said the chief minister and his cabinet had failed in providing security to the masses. He said no one was feeling secure in the wake of the recent violent acts. He said revenge killings were becoming norm of the day in the region. He said the police department was itself a victim of such acts and had no capacity to fight miscreants. He also demanded resignation of the chief minister.
JUI’s Maulana Attaullah Shahab asked Islamabad to form a commission to unearth the elements behind bloodshed in Gilgit. He said both internal and external powers were behind the present scenario.
The chairman GB Qaumi Movement Abdul Wahid, while criticising the government, said it had no moral grounds to stay in power anymore. “The army must step into to save the lives of the innocent citizens who are being killed for nothing,” he demanded. http://dawn.com/2012/08/28/poor-law-and-order-in-gilgit-irks-politicians/
