Pak-China border reopens on April 1

GILGIT, March 18: The Pak-China border at Khunjarab Pass will reopen on April 1 instead of May 1. A decision to this effect was taken at a high level meeting held here on Monday. It was also decided at the meeting that the border will be closed on December 1 instead of December 31.

A senior official said the meeting asked the Gilgit-Baltistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, GB Gems Association and other such organisations to forward names of the people to be travelling across the border so that the home department could prepare border passes for them.

The official said a nominal fee will be charged for obtaining a border pass. Besides the pass holders will undergo verification by the police at the border.

The official informed that the people of Gojal sub-division of Hunza had been exempted from the pass fee as the area was calamity hit.

ABSENTEE TEACHERS: The Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Secretary Sajad Salim Hottiana has directed the education department to ensure presence of teachers in the schools of far flung areas.

An official of the education department said the chief secretary took serious notice of press reports regarding absence of teachers in remote valley of Naltar especially girls schools.

The chief secretary summoned the senior officials of the education department and directed them to take strict action against the absent teachers. He also directed posting of teachers to the schools facing shortage of staff.http://dawn.com/2013/03/19/pak-china-border-reopens-on-april-1/
