KKH security force without salary for two months: The Dawn, July 31

GILGIT, July 30: Hundreds of personnel of Karakuram Security Force, which were recruited to safeguard the Chinese workers engaged with widening of the Karakuram Highway, are without salaries for last two months.

They have threatened to go on strike if their salaries were not paid immediately.

Police officials said that the Northern Areas police and the National Highway Authority had inked an agreement about the security of Chinese workers.Under the agreement, some 214 police personnel were inducted in the first phase and 180 in the second phase, the officials said.

They said that since June 2009 not a single penny had been paid by the NHA as a result the salaries of these personnel could not be paid.A senior official even said that Rs1.8 million had been borrowed from a local bank to make payments of the month of June but the department was unable to pay salary of July.   http://epaper.dawn.com/ArticleText.aspx?article=31_07_2009_009_006
