Diamer jirga threatens to end govt support : report in Dawn Sept 28.

GILGIT, Sept 27 The chief of the Diamer jirga Qazi Inayatullah on Friday said the forum wouldn’t accept any pressure from any organisation or the government as it wasn’t on anybody’s payroll.

Talking to Dawn here he said that the arrest of culprits involved in various incidents of violence in the area became possible only because of the cooperation of the jirga, which was working only for safeguarding interests of the state.

“We have handed over four accused booked in the terrorism cases to the police and despite that we are being accused of not doing our bit, which is uncalled for,” he added.

Mr Inayatullah said the jirga wanted peace, tranquility and communal harmony in the region as the people of Diamer were peace loving and patriotic Pakistanis. “The jirga has handed over those wanted in anti-state activities to the authorities,” he said.

He said that ulema and public had unanimously decided to stand by the security forces in hunting anti-peace elements.

He lamented that despite all those efforts the government was creating an impression that the jirga was protecting the culprits.
