The Hotan county government in Northwest China’s Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region has given a reward of over 1 million yuan ($145,275) to 18 officials and residents for their contributions to preserving social stability.
The 1.09 million yuan was divided among 16 officials and two residents in Hotan for their outstanding performance in preserving social stability. Three of the officials were “exceptionally promoted,” ts.cn, a news portal affiliated with the Xinjiang regional government, reported on Saturday.
However, 14 other officials were demoted, sacked or expelled from the Communist Party of China for misconduct, the report said.
The sizeable reward was given to encourage more people to fight the forces of terrorism, separatism and extremism, Lu Boran, the Party committee secretary of Hotan county, was quoted by the ts.cn as saying.
“The three forces damage our homeland and peaceful life, endanger social stability and safety, so we have to firmly fight against them,” ts.cn reported, citing one of the awarded officials.
In February, Hotan Prefecture authorities offered a reward of up to 5 million yuan to people who report and provide clues on terrorist activities.
Those who provide crucial tips about terror attacks aimed at densely populated areas and crowds or government buildings would get a reward of 3 to 5 million yuan. Those who report terrorists and religious extremists who mobilize, swear allegiance to jihad, or orchestrate and organize illegal cross-border activities would get 2 to 3 million yuan.
Tipsters who wish to stay anonymous can provide their bank account information to the government and will not be publicly rewarded.
In October 2016, Police in Xinjiang gave 2.2 million yuan to six locals for providing information on potential terrorist activities.
Xinjiang Daily, the local official newspaper, said six people from Baicheng county, Lop county and other places in Xinjiang would share 2.2 million yuan, with each guaranteed of getting at least 200,000 yuan for help in detecting and preventing violent and terrorist activities.http://www.globaltimes.cn/content/1042681.shtml
