BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s motorcade has been attacked in Feni.

The former prime minister left Dhaka Saturday morning for Cox’s Bazar to visit the Rohingyas, who faced persecution in their homeland in Rakhine and fled to Bangladesh in the past one month.

She is scheduled to stay overnight in Chittagong and start for the coastal district in the morning.

Several cars of the motorcade came under attack by a group of unidentified men as soon as it passed Comilla’s Chouddagram and reached Feni’s Mohammad Ali Bazar area, round seven kilometres away from the Feni town.

The men, 15 to 20 of them, some carrying firearms, attacked the cars after the car carrying Khaleda crossed the area around 4:45pm, bdnews24.com’s Suman Mahmud reported.

More than 30 cars belonging to the motorcade, including those carrying the press, have been damaged in the attack, he said.

Khaleda arrived in Feni at 5pm and started for Chittagong after around a two-hour break.
Local BNP leaders alleged that ruling Awami League leaders and activists set up blockades on the streets so that Khaleda cannot meet with the local workers of her party.

Awami League Publicity Secretary Hasan Mahmud alleged at a programme in Chittagong that “Khaleda chose to travel by road intentionally to provoke chaos”.

A BNP motorcade carrying relief materials for the Rohingyas were stopped too on the way to Cox’s Bazar in mid-September after the latest exodus from Myanmar started.

The ruling party said at the time that the BNP motorcade was stopped because the party did not follow the rule to distribute the relief through the district administration.

Earlier, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir ‘s motorcade came under attack in Chittagong on the way to distribute relief among the victims of the landslide.https://bdnews24.com/politics/2017/10/28/vehicles-in-bnp-motorcade-attacked-in-feni-khaleda-s-car-unscathed
