WASHINGTON: The US Department of State on Monday reiterated that it seeks free and fair elections in Pakistan.
The department’s principal deputy spokesperson, Vendant Patel, said the United States’ focus “continues to be on ensuring andsupporting that there are free and fair elections that are conducted in a way for benefit of the Pakistani people.”
While responding to a question about the announcement of the election date and PTI chairman’s incarceration, Mr Patel added that he “does not have an assessment on the makeup of candidates or the representation of any specific political party.” That is for the people of Pakistan to decide, he said.
