UN’s Bennett urges for Identification of perpetrators of Kabul attack

By Fidel Rahmati in The Khaama Press Online, November 8, 2023
In response to the recent attack on a civilian bus in western Kabul, the United Nations Special Rapporteur has called for an urgent and thorough investigation to identify the culprits behind the explosion.

On Wednesday, Richard Bent, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Human Rights, expressed his concerns, saying, “This is the third attack on the Hazaras in Afghanistan in less than a month.”

He called for a “comprehensive and transparent” investigation into the attacks targeting the Hazara community in Afghanistan.

It should be noted that the ISIS group claimed responsibility for the explosion in western Kabul. The group targeted a passenger bus of the Coaster type in the western outskirts of Kabul yesterday evening, resulting in the death of seven people and injuring more than 20 others.

Media reports, citing the ISIS-affiliated Telegram channel known as “Amaq,” have indicated that the perpetrators of this attack targeted a Coaster passenger bus, marking the second such deadly explosion claimed by ISIS in western Kabul in the past month.

ISIS has claimed that 30 people were killed or injured in this explosion. However, the spokesperson for the Kabul Security Command stated that seven people were killed and 20 others were injured as a result of this explosion.

The “Hasht-e Sobh” newspaper, citing its sources, has reported higher casualty figures from this explosion than what the Taliban have claimed.

According to the report by this media outlet, the explosion in western Kabul on the evening of the previous day resulted in the death of 8 individuals and the injury of 38 others.

Local sources reported an explosion in the Dasht-e Barchi area in western Kabul on Tuesday. According to eyewitnesses, a Coaster passenger bus was targeted in the “Golai Mahatab Qala” area.

This is the second deadly explosion in western Kabul in the past month, with the first one targeting athletes in a sports club and the second targeting passengers inside a passenger bus.
Former Afghan President Hamid Karzai has also condemned the deadly explosion that occurred last night in Dasht-e Barchi.

The deadly explosion at the Mawj Sports Club and the explosion in a Shia mosque in the city of Pul-e Khumri, Baghlan province, are two other recent explosions that have directly targeted the Hazara community in the past month.
