United States Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter has said his country is firm on financing the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) and that they will consider a billion-dollar package in the Pentagon’s budget for the next year.
Carter said the Afghan security forces are now equipped with different types of aircraft and that they will be used on the battlefields.
He said their budget contains an element for the Afhan security forces. “Remember, that is the key. They are supposed to be increasingly able to take over their own security,” Carter said.
“They will have now fixed wing aircraft. We just delivered 29s to them… All these capabilities that they didn’t have last season they will have this season. We hope that that will… not hope it is a plan – that strengthens their hand against the Taliban by full sufficiency,” he added.
