Two suspected militants arrested

LAHORE: The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) has foiled a major terror plot by arresting two suspected militants linked with banned outfits during operations in different areas of the province.

According to the spokesman, the Punjab CTD conducted 50 intelligence-based operations in different districts of the province to effectively deal with any untoward incident of terrorism, in which 50 suspected persons were interrogated. Two alleged militants were arrested with weapons, explosives and other prohibited materials.

Among the arrested militants are Zakirulla and Muhammad Eisha, he said and added that they belonged to banned organisation Daesh.

He said the arrest of these militants was carried out during intelligence-based operations in Gujranwala and Rawalpindi. He said 1.58 kilo explosives, eight detonators, 13 feet of safety fuse wire, two mobile phones and Rs6,480 in cash had been recovered from the possession of these militants.

The spokesman said the militants wanted to target important installations.

The police have registered two separate cases against the suspects in Gujranwala and Rawalpindi and shifted them to an unknown location, he said.

He said 369 combing operations were also conducted during this week with the help of local police and security agencies. Some 13,871 people were checked, 52 suspects were arrested, 49 FIRs were registered and 14 recoveries were made during these operations.
