SOUTH WAZIRISTAN: Two soldiers were martyred and one was wounded when unidentified assailants attacked a security forces’ convoy in South Waziristan tribal district on Thursday.
Inter-Services Public Relations, the army’s media wing, confirmed the martyrdom of personnel in the attack, which occurred in Pash Ziarat area of Makeen subdivision in South Waziristan.
Sources said the convoy was heading towards Makeen when terrorists fired rockets in the mountainous area. The attack resulted in the martyrdom of Hawaldar Matloob Alam and Sepoy Suleman Shaukat. One soldier sustained injuries in the attack.
Security forces cordoned off the area soon after the attack and initiated search to track down the culprits.
No group or organisation has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Sources said terrorists had carried out five attacks against the security forces in South Waziristan since January this year in which Captain Abdullah and several soldiers had been martyred. Several militant outfits had left the area after launch of Operation Zarb-i-Azb in North Waziristan in June 2014. The area witnessed marked decline in attacks on the security forces in South Waziristan.
The situation has worsened during the past six months following regrouping of TTP and other groups. Meanwhile, the security forces have also intensified intelligence-based operations in the area. www.dawn.com/news/1591289/two-soldiers-martyred-in-s-waziristan
