TTP continues finding ‘havens’ in Afghanistan: by Maqbool Malik in The Nation, March 12, 2016

ISLAMABAD – A number of Pakistani Taliban have fled to Afghanistan from North Waziristan Agency during the past few weeks, it has been learnt reliably.
Security sources said some of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants were reportedly moved into Afghanistan prior to the military’s final push in the Shawal valley and its adjoining areas while some others were on the run.
“We have no estimates how many of them have moved so far,” a senior security official said on anonymity.
A number of militants, including their key commanders, were killed in the Shawal valley army offensive last week.
Foreign Office spokesperson Muhammad Nafees Zakaria told a questioner during his weekly press briefing that he had no idea of the exact number of runaway militants. “I don’t think anyone would have the exact number,” he said.
Mullah Fazalullah, the TTP chief, has been using Afghan soil since 2009 when he sneaked into Afghanistan to escape the Swat military swoop. Similarly, TTP Bajaur commander Moulvi Faqir Muhammad made his way into Afghanistan the same year.
The Pakistan government has time and again raised the issue with its Afghan counterpart. The Afghan government, while acknowledging the presence of TTP chief Fazalullah, said these TTP militants were using the most inaccessible border regions in Afghanistan and had survived a couple of attacks by the Afghan security forces.
