Torkham action sparks Kabul reaction: by Ahmad Nabi in The Nation, June 05, 2016

KHYBER AGENCY – After stringent measures taken by Pakistani officials at Torkham border, Afghan policemen also prevented Pakistani nationals from entering Afghanistan without having legal documents.

According to reports, the Pakistani businessmen who cross the bordering area and enter Afghanistan hail from Mohmand Agency of Fata and other areas of the country.
Aggrieved businessmen told this scribe that after off days, they intended to enter Afghanistan via Torkham border, but Afghan officials told them to return and come with valid visas.

“I have been associated with spare parts business for 20 years and have been crossing the border, but the restrictions imposed by both the governments have created problems for us,” said Rehmat Shah of Mohmand Agency.

He asked the authorities of the two governments to give relaxation to the businessmen who reside close to both sides of Pak-Afghan border.

Merajuddin Shinwari, chairman, Customs Clearance Agents Association Torkham, said the businesses-related activities had greatly decreased after National Logistic Cell (NLC) officials erected a concrete wall in front of markets and business centres.
He went on to say the rest of business activities stood totally suspended with the restrictions imposed by Pakistani officials as part of National Action Plan (NAP).
He claimed 80 percent of commuters’ movement had fallen at the taxi stands owing to strict measures.

Earlier, the Pakistan government issued passes to 850 pushcarts and awarded relaxation to the truck drivers who enter or leave both the countries.
The transporters who have Rahdari cards, CNICs or any other identity documents will be allowed to cross Afghan-Pakistan border, Torkham border officials said.

Meanwhile, 10 Afghan nationals who entered Pakistan illegally via Pasaid Khel area of Landi Kotal were apprehended by the Frontier Corps troops and deported to Afghanistan through Torkham border yesterday.http://nation.com.pk/national/05-Jun-2016/torkham-action-sparks-kabul-reaction
