Three workers detained by police for taking photos, videos of factory

Report in Global Times, June 7, 2017 at 15:18:39
Police have detained three people in East China’s Jiangxi Province for filming and secretly taking pictures in a factory.

Ganzhou’s public security bureau told the Global Times Tuesday that they have detained factory employees Su Heng, Li Zhao and Hua Haifeng for taking photos and video in the factory. The bureau added that they have seized the hard drives and laptops used to store images and video.

The factory’s name has not been disclosed.

Police received a tip from someone in the factory that an employee was acting suspiciously while taking pictures around the factory. The employee disappeared when police arrived, the bureau said.

Police later found and detained Su and the two others.

Police said the three confessed others had asked them to start working at the factory. They then collected information about the factory and were allegedly paid by foreign organizations for the information.

Su said they have been collecting information about factories this way since 2010.

The Associated Press (AP) reported that the US State Department has urged China to release three “activists” arrested while investigating a factory that produces shoes for Ivanka Trump and other brands.

“We urge China to release them immediately and afford them the judicial and fair trial protections to which they are entitled,” Alicia Edwards, a State Department spokesperson, said.

She added the US remains concerned about “the pattern of arrests and detentions,” and noted that labor activists are instrumental in helping American companies understand conditions in their supply chains and holding Chinese manufacturers accountable to Chinese labor laws, AP reported. http://www.globaltimes.cn/content/1050442.shtml
