B’desh: ‘They are very professional’: Aniruddha Roy says

Report in Prothom ALo, update: 23:33, Nov 20, 2017
Aniruddha Roy“I just stepped out of the Union Bank office [Gulshan 1] after a meeting there, a man approached, said salam and asked, ‘Are you Aniruddha? Are you the honorary consul of Belarus?’

“And I was walking along and talking to him when suddenly another person whisked me off in a microbus. They threatened me to keep looking down on the floor, and not to look at them or outside the car. They were constantly threatening me saying: ‘If you will look outside, you will be killed’. I was forced to sit in such a manner so that people from outside can think that I am a normal co-passenger of them.”

Aniruddha Roy, a businessman and the honorary consul of Belarus who returned home on 16 November as much as 81 days after his disappearance, was narrating how he was abducted, while talking to Prothom Alo at his Gulshan residence on Sunday.

He said he was confined in a room for 81 days. The room just had a bed and an attached bathroom. No light could enter the windowless room. There was just a small opening in the toilet for ventilation, but no light came through there either.

Talking to Prothom Alo, Aniruddha said he went to Sonargaon Hotel in the morning on that fateful day to do exercise and then attended a meeting at the Bangladesh Secretariat before joining the meeting at Union Bank.

“I was planning to take my meal at home after the Union Bank meeting. That is why I was hungry. I could hardly think clearly.

“The incident took place in a matter of seconds. I couldn’t imagine what was happening. Even my driver could not understand what was going on. The microbus drove around for long after I was picked up around 4:30pm.

“It was night when they dropped me in front of a building. Two people from both sides took me upstairs. It seemed they took me to a room on the first floor of a building. It was an apartment building,” he added.

About the room in which he was kept, Aniruddha said, “The bed was made of wood. It was a single bed and very ordinary. It was neat and clean.

Several different persons would bring in my food. My meals consisted of rice, curry, fish, meat and other items. They served roti and curry for breakfast and sometimes they also had khicchuri.”

He also said, “Those who served my food asked me about my business and my partnership.”

He said, “I will try to meet the PM. I will talk to her about how to resolve the problem. As a member of the minority community, I want justice.”

“There is no doubt that the people who did this were very professional. It was an expert operation. It was planned for me. I was confined for 81 days inside a room. They served food on a tray timely. The room was locked from outside.”

Two days after his return, Aniruddha, a CIP (Commercially Important Person), sent a letter to the media regarding his abduction.

In the letter, he accused his business partner Mohiuddin Ahmed Mahin and others of kidnapping him.

“I, Aniruddha Roy, managing director of RMM group, am a victim of business vengeance. My business partner Mohiuddin Ahmed Mahin Gong tried his best to grab my three companies: RMM Leather Industries Ltd, RMM Knitting Clothing Ltd, RMM Sweater that comprise assets of more than 1.5 billion taka. On 27 August, after returning from a meeting at Union Bank at Gulshan-1, at about 4:30pm, I was abducted. I suspect I fell prey to business vengeance,” read the letter.

But, he did not file any case till Sunday last against the accused.

When contacted, Mohiuddin Ahmed denied the accusation of being involved in the abduction, saying he was shocked and saddened over the incident.

Aniruddha Roy’s allegations are completely false, said Mohiuddin Ahmed, adding that the incident has humiliated him.

Mohiuddin claimed that he has the facts and documents to prove the allegations false.

“The matter is not true. I’ll take further action after looking into the legal aspects of the matter,” he added.

Gulshan police officer-in-charge Abu Bakar Siddique said, “We saw a letter published in media. But,he has not raised any allegations to the police in this regard. The police hasn’t even been able to talk to him in the past three days.” http://en.prothom-alo.com/bangladesh/news/135025/They-are-very-professional
