Taliban Still A Serious Threat To Afghanistan’s Security: RS by Mir Abed Joenda in Tolo News, Apr 5, 2016 at 20:51

Resolute Support (RS) on Tuesday said that Taliban still pose a serious threat to the security of Afghanistan.

The Deputy Chief of Staff, Communications, of the Resolute Support, Charles H. Cleveland, said that the Taliban will strive to capture some parts of Afghanistan; however, Resolute Support forces will continue its support for Afghan security forces.

He also expressed his concerns over activities of al Qaeda, Daesh and Haqqani network in some parts of the country.

Cleveland in a press conference termed Taliban as a host group for al Qaeda, Daesh and Lashkar-e-Taeba.

“The Taliban is a very serious challenge and we do think that they are going to, as soon as they possibly can, aggressively try …and assault provincial government capitals and certainly district capitals,” he said. Besides Taliban and Haqqani network, the presence of 100 to 300 al Qaeda fighters and the presence of 1,000 to 3,000 Daesh fighters are considered a threat to the security of Afghanistan.

“Historically, the Haqqani network has really been perhaps the most lethal and the most capable terrorist organization operating in Afghanistan,” said Cleveland. He said that foreign troops in Afghanistan have conducted at least 100 military operations against Daesh fighters in Nangarhar province since the beginning of 2016. He said that they will continue the operations.http://www.tolonews.com/en/afghanistan/24608-taliban-still-a-serious-threat-to-afghanistans-security-rs
