Taliban Rule Nearly 2 Million Afghans in 9 Districts by Karim Amini in Tolo News.com, 05 July 2016

The Taliban and other terrorist groups rule nearly two million citizens in nine districts of Afghanistan.

Opposition groups control over nine districts and more than 50 other districts are under serious security threats.

The Afghan Defense and Interior Ministries confirm that the nine districts are out of government control. They say the armed opposition uses those districts as their bases.

According to the ministry four districts in Helmand, two districts in Badakhshan provinces, Kohistanat district, Nawa of Ghazni and Khak Afghan district of Zabul province are where Taliban have permanent bases.

“They [the Taliban] use the areas for terror and to conduct suicide attacks. To force the people to obey them, the Taliban use intimidation through terror,” Interior Ministry spokesman Sediq Sediqi said.

Among the districts Nawa of Ghazni has been a safe haven for the terrorists for almost one decade.

“In the districts where their training centers are, they also have clinics, suicide bomber centers and motor bomb centers. Those use those centers to conduct attacks in four to five other provinces,” said Aminullah Amarkhail Ghazni police Chief.

The question arises that while Afghanistan’s security institutions know that Taliban have bases in those districts, why were they not taking any action to free those districts from the Taliban?

“War in Afghanistan is not just war with five or ten persons. Much more is involved, including intelligence gathering and the equipping of terrorists tasked to attack people here. Even if the war with Taliban were to end, the war against terrorism continues,” Dawlat Waziri Defense Ministry spokesman said.

Reports indicate that terrorist groups in the mentioned districts are also involved in drug smuggling, weapon smuggling. The hold open trials and receive their most of their budget for their wars from those districts. www.tolonews.com/en/afghanistan/26118-taliban-rule-nearly-2-million-afghans-in-9-districts
