Taliban commander among 4 killed in Afghan Air Force raid in Takhar By KHAAMA PRESS – Thu May 12 2016

Taliban commander was killed in an airstrike by the Afghan Air Force in northeastern Takhar province of Afghanistan.

The Ministry of Defense (MoD) said the Taliban commander identified as Hanif was killed in the raid which was conducted in Darqad district.

A statement by MoD said at least two other militants were also wounded in teh airsrike which was carried out as part of the routine counter-terrorism operations in the past 24 hours.

The Taliban militants are active in some parts of the northeastern Takhar province and are often carrying insurgency activities.

Meanwhile, the Afghan forces have stepped up clearance operations to suppress the insurgency activities of the group as they have announced to increase attacks as part of the group’s spring offensive.

Earlier, a deadly suicide attack plot to target a populated area of Takhar in northeast of Afghanistan was thwarted by the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF).

The Afghan Intelligence, National Directorate of Security (NDS), said last week a would-be suicide bomber was arrested in connection to the attack plot by the intelligence operatives.http://www.khaama.com/taliban-commander-among-4-killed-in-afghan-air-force-raid-in-takhar-0914
