Suspected Taliban Financial Officer Arrested In Nangarhar TOLOnews.com, May 10, 2016 11:44

A suspected Taliban financial officer was arrested in eastern Nangarhar province reportedly with a ten million Pakistani rupees bank cheque in his possession, local officials confirmed.

The financial officer named Mir Adam was arrested last week by security forces in Pacheragam district, a senior official said.

He said that they have called on the central government to arrange for the man to be transferred to Kabul but until now no one has responded.

He added investigations are underway in connection with the case.

Atuallah Khogyani, spokesman for the provincial governor, did not confirm that the arrested person is the Taliban financial officer in eastern Afghanistan, but said that investigations in this regard are underway.

“A cheque of some amount of money, Pakistani identity cards, and propaganda papers have been recovered [from the arrested man] and investigations from the detained person is underway,” he said.

A number of civil society activists meanwhile blasted the government for negligence to arrange for the arrested man to be transferred to Kabul.

“There are some circles inside the government in some departments, particularly in bordering areas…not only inside the government, but also there some members of the parliament who are supporting this kind of criminal,” said Ershad Raghand, a civil society activist.

The Ministry of Interior (MoI) said that they will soon take action to transfer Mir Adam to Kabul.

“This person is someone who wanted to provide financial resources to the Taliban and to enter into Afghanistan from the other side of the Durand Line. Our border protection forces have enough documents and proof [against the arrested man]. We are trying to arrange for the transfer of this person to Kabul,” said Sediq Sediqqi, a spokesman for the MoI.

Experts believe that the arrest of a Taliban commander with a cheque from a Pakistani bank in his possession shows that the bank has links with terrorist group. http://www.tolonews.com/en/afghanistan/25210-suspected-taliban-financial-officer-arrested-in-nangarhar
