Two suspected drug peddlers have been killed in alleged gunfights in Mymensingh and Jessore.
Mymensingh police claimed that 38-year-old Jalal Uddin was accused in six drugs-related cases.
The ‘gunfight’ took place around 2:15am on Wednesday, the district Detective Branch Officer-in-Charge Ashiqur Rahman told the Dhaka Tribune.
He said a team of DB and police raided Bhaluka upazila’s Habirbari area to arrest a gang of drug dealers. After a skirmish, the gang members fled, leaving behind Jalal, who was injured in the shootout.
He said doctors at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital pronounced Jalal dead when he was taken there.
Two police constables were also injured, Ashiqur said, adding that 200 pieces of yaba pills were seized.
In a separate incident, police said they recovered the body of a man from Jessore’s Chougachha area.
Local police station’s in-charge Khandker Shamimuddin claimed the man was a drug dealer and was killed in a gunfight between two gangs around 2:30am.
He said they also recovered a pistol, bullets, and three kilograms of cannabis from the spot.
Doctors at Jessore General Hospital said the man, who is yet to be identified, had died before he was brought there.
