Submarine cable landing station to be set up in Gwadar: Report in The Nation, 16-Dec-2016

ISLAMABAD – The National Telecommunication Corporation (NTC) has planned to establish submarine cable landing station at Gwadar to provide alternate route to the existing network.

This was revealed on Thursday during a signing ceremony between the NTC and the Telecard Limited. Both the companies will cooperate on developing business and providing support solutions in the ICT for Government Sector under the Telecom Policy 2015. Supernet Ltd is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Telecard Limited providing services to customers, which include satellite, radio and fiber optic base managed WAN services. Shamsul Arfeen, CEO Telecard Ltd endorsed that the partnership would add value to the NTC portfolio as their business partner to provide latest satellite technologies such as the O3B services, i-direct service and low-cost satellite-based broadband services for the NTC customers. NTC Managing Director Brig (retired) Viqar Rashid Khan, while speaking on the occasion, briefed the audience that the NTC was the first operator to establish the Cloud-Based National Data Centre in the public sector.

He said that the corporation NTC had completed over 85 per cent of its ADP projects in a record one year.

It also extended its services from 54 districts/cities to 87 districts/ cities including 13 districts in Sindh and six districts in Balochistan.

Overall Fixed Lines telephone growth observed was six per cent despite the decline in its general use, which then saw growth of over 36 per cent in broadband.
