KARACHI: The Counter Terrorism Department on Tuesday claimed to have arrested a suspect linked with a banned separatist outfit.
The CTD along with an intelligence agency carried out a raid in Mehran Town of Korangi and arrested the suspect, namely Rustam Ali Shar, affiliated with the outlawed Sindhudesh Revolutionary Army, said the spokesperson.
One pistol along with five rounds were recovered from his custody.
The CTD spokesperson said during interrogation, the suspect ‘confessed’ that he belonged to the SRA whose head is Zulfiqar Khaskheli who lives in Germany.
The suspect is the mastermind of the group involved in brainwashing impressionable youths, claimed the official.
“He used to get targets/directions from Zulfiqar Khaskheli through signal app/telegram app.”
He also provided financial assistance and arms and facilitation to the SRA’s militants. There were eight cases registered against Rustam Ali in Karachi and other districts of Sindh province.
Wounded CTD man dies: A CTD man, who was injured in an encounter with militants on the outskirts of the city over one month ago, died during treatment in a hospital on Tuesday.
CTD official Raja Umer Khattab said Head Constable Arshad Jadoon was wounded in the encounter on Oct 1. During that encounter, two high-profile militants affiliated with the banned outfit were killed, he said, adding that the wounded policeman remained under treatment at a health facility for over a month. He was on ventilator.
