Seven suspects of banned outfits arrested

LAHORE: Punjab Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) on Monday claimed to have arrested seven suspected terrorists linked with banned out-fits during operations in different areas of the province.

According to the spokesman, the CTD Punjab conducted 49 intelligence-based operations in different districts of the province, in which 49 suspects were interrogated and seven alleged terrorists arrested with weapons, explosives and other prohibited materials.

The arrested suspects are; Muhammad Fiaz, Mulazim Hussain, Shahid Hussain, Siaful Din, Muhammad Rafiullah, Qari Muhammad Athiraz and Muhammad Arbi, he said and added that they belonged to the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan, Islamic State militant group (Daesh), and Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, arrested in Gujranwala, Sargodha, Faisalabad and Bahawalpur.

He said3,100 gram explosives, 14 detonators, 10-foot protective fuse wire, three mobile phones and Rs20,550 in cash were recovered from the suspects.

The spokesman said the suspects had planned sabotage across the province and wanted to target important installations and other places. The police have registered six cases against the arrested suspects in Khushab, Gujranwala, Faisalabad and Bahawalnagar and shifted them to an unknown location, he added.

He said that 240 combing operations were also conducted during this week with the help of local police and security agencies, checking 12,230 persons and arresting 65 suspects.
