Security forces retake Khanshin district: report in Afghanistan Times, July 31, 2016

KABUL: The security forces retook the control of Khanshin district of southern Helmand province during an operation, security officials said Sunday.

“Taliban were pushed back from Khanshin district and most of the areas in the district were recaptured by security forces,” provincial spokesman Torialai Hemmat said.

He said 20 Taliban were killed and 15 wounded through airstrike and ground raids carried out by Afghan forces in the district.

Taliban seized control of Khanshin after hours of clashes with Afghan forces, which have been started Friday night.

Tens of Taliban fighters attacked the district and got the control of several government buildings including the chief of district’s office for hours.

Recently, Taliban fighters have stormed different districts of Helmand province.

On the other hand, Taliban on Twitter informed of insurgents’ attack on different security posts in Nadali district.

The volatile Helmand Province has turned to the most insecure provinces this year. Taliban fighters have waged a comeback, and now control several rural areas in the province.

Despite operations by Afghan forces, Taliban temporarily captured several districts in the past year.

The Dishu and Garmser districts on the Pakistan border are now largely under Taliban control.http://afghanistantimes.af/security-forces-retake-khanshin-district/
