Russia Rejects Links With Taliban: by Mir Abed Joenda in Tolo News, April 25,2016

Russian ambassador to Afghanistan, Alexander Mantytskiy on Monday vehemently rejected claims that his government had lent support to the Taliban in the group’s fight against Daesh.

Addressing a press conference in Kabul, Mantytskiy said: “Russia has no secret plan with Taliban regarding Afghanistan, but a number of countries including the United States, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Iran and even Germany have ties with the Taliban. Moscow calls on this group [Taliban] to join the intra-Afghan peace talks.”

He said his country will not cooperate with the U.S regarding Afghanistan’s issues but it hopes that the Kabul-Moscow talks on a military cooperation accord will be finalized in the near future.

“Afghanistan and Russia are busy in discussions on a military cooperation agreement. We hope that the talks will be finalized soon and that the two countries sign the agreement,” he added.

The Russian envoy called on the Afghan government to increase intelligence exchange between the two countries in order to prevent Daesh activities in Afghanistan.http://www.tolonews.com/en/afghanistan/24970-russia-rejects-links-with-taliban
