Representatives from eight countries and the European Union have expressed their “concern” over the human rights situation in Afghanistan in a joint statement, calling for the lifting of restrictions, including women’s education and employment bans.
On Tuesday, the representatives and special envoys from Canada, the European Union, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Norway, the United Kingdom, and the United States issued a joint statement after concluding a meeting in Rome.
The statement emphasizes that the restrictions and exclusion of women and girls from social, economic, political, and cultural life in Afghanistan violate the rights of the Afghan people and international commitments, which have a profound impact on the long-term economic and developmental weakening of the country.
Furthermore, the representatives of these countries have described the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan as dire and called for support for humanitarian efforts, highlighting the continued assistance to Afghanistan’s humanitarian activities.
In the portion of the statement by the representatives of the eight countries, they once again underscore the need for a transparent, inclusive, and meaningful national consultative dialogue in Afghanistan and emphasize the protection of the rights of every Afghan citizen, especially the rights of women and girls to education, employment, and public participation.
According to the statistics mentioned in the statement, 29 million people in Afghanistan are in urgent need of assistance.
It should be noted that so far, the authorities of the Taliban administration of Afghanistan have not responded to this joint statement by the representatives of the eight countries.
