Release of Pakistani drivers languishing in Afghanistan jail demanded Report in The Nation, July 04, 2016

LANDIKOTAL: Heirs of the Pakistani drivers, arrested in Afghanistan four months ago, have appealed to the Prime Minister of Pakistan and the Chief of Army Staff to take up the issue with the Afghan government for the early release of the drivers as one of the driver has died last week while the others are in critical health condition, family sources said on Monday.

Flanked by several other family members of the arrested six Pakistani drivers, Gaohar Ali Shinwari, told the agency that his father Yadullah Shinwari and five others went missing in Afghanistan some four months ago. He said the arrested drivers were on their way back toPakistan from Kabul when busted.

Gohar Ali said his father was employed with DHL logistic company since long. He added that they searched the missing drivers and their trucks in Afghanistan for long time but they did not find them.

Those found in Afghan jails were identified as Yadullah Shinwari, resident of Landikotal, Mekaeel Afridi, resident of Nekikhel Khyber, Riaz Khan Afridi, resident of Bara tehsil and Niamatullah, resident of Sheikhmalkhel in Landikotal tehsil of Khyber Agency. While the names of the other arrested persons could be ascertained till filling to this report.

Gohar said Afghan police told them that they had filed spying cases against the drivers as they were arrested. He said the arrested persons were badly tortured in jails.

He said last week one of the driver, identified as Niamatullah in a critical health condition handed over to his family members at Torkham border who later died in a hospital in Peshawar.

“Afghan police have also severely tortured my father (Yadullah) and has lost his eye sights”, Gaohar with wet eyes told this scribe.

Gorhar Ali said they also met with the DHL, company management but they were not interested to help release the arrested persons inAfghanistan.

The family members appealed from Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to take up the issue with the Afghan government so that the innocent Pakistani nationals languishing in Afghan jails could be safely released.

When contacted Rahimullah Mehsud, the Landikotal assistant political agent of Landikotal, he said that the heirs of the Pakistani drivers had sought help from the Pakistani government of Paksitan. He said last week a written complaint was also filed at his office asking action against the DHL logistic .company

Mehsud said they have sent a written notice to the DHL management to clear their position in written and take notice of the arrested of the drivers. He said the matter would also be discussed in the flag meeting scheduled after Eid holidays. Rahimullah assured that they would not let any stone unturned to release the Pakistani drivers soon.

The Official said that DHL if failed to clear their position in the coming days they would launch crackdown against the company and would seal all its offices in Pakistan.
