Relatives of fallen Levies men threaten protest for employment

Report in Dawn, Dec 17th, 2020
BAJAUR: The close relatives of several fallen personnel of former Bajaur Levies have threatened to launch a protest movement if they are not recruited in place of the martyred officials immediately.

Addressing a press conference at Bajaur Press Club, a number of close relatives and family members of the martyred personnel, including Khaista Gul, Iqbal Hussain, Afnan Ali, Usman Khan, Usama Tariq and Zaheen Shah, said that about 200 personnel of former Bajaur Levies, recently merged into police department, had died in the line of duty during war against terrorism in the last one decade.

They said it was a tradition that a family member of the martyred personnel was recruited on his vacant post. They said senior officials of then political administration had announced several years ago that one member of each of the martyred personnel’s families would be recruited in the force.

They said that relatives of most of the fallen personnel were not recruited despite lapse of several years while those belonging to influential families were employed on the vacant posts a few years ago. The relatives said that denial of jobs in police was a matter of concern for them. They said the Peshawar High Court had also ordered the relevant authorities to recruit one family member each of the martyred personnel in the police in Bajaur.

They said that senior officials of police department during meetings with them several months ago had promised that all the vacant posts in the department would be filled through the relatives of martyred personnel. However, the promise could not be fulfilled as yet.

They threatened to launch a protest movement if they were not recruited in police.
