Rangers summon PPP leaders after disclosures of Uzair Baloch, Zulfiqar Mirza

KARACHI: Presenting his analysis in the programme on Tuesday, the host Shahzeb Khanzada said the present and former leaders of the People’s Party are being interrogated one after another following the arrest of the central character of Lyari gang war Uzair Baloch.

The Rangers officials had first summoned a former leader of the People’s Party, Zulfiqar Mirza, for investigations and now they have summoned former president of the People’s Party Karachi, Qadir Patel, on March 3. Qadir Patel is accused of supporting Lyari gangsters. Qadir Patel’s name has also been given in the FIR of Dr Asim, which says that Qadir Patel was getting Lyari the gangsters treated in Dr Asim’s hospital. The PSO of Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah has been informed about the summoning of Qadir Patel.

Shahzeb Khanzada said Qadir Patel had said that he is under treatment in London and cannot appear for interrogation. However, he will return in the last week of March and would appear before the Rangers on March 28.

Analysing the money laundering case, Shahzeb Khanzada said Sarfaraz Merchant is an important name in the ongoing money laundering case against the MQM. Sarfaraz Merchant is blamed for involvement in the money laundering with MQM chief Altaf Hussain and others. Sarfaraz Merchant was arrested from his home in London in December 2013 by the Scotland Yard. He was grilled for 15 hours and then released on bail. It was in June 2015 that the documents of the interviews of two important leaders of the MQM – Tariq Mir and Sarfaraz Merchant – were made public. It was stated before the London police that the first page of the documents, containing conversation with the police, was correct. According to the page, the Scotland Yard had told Sarfaraz Merchant that two MQM leaders Tariq Mir and Muhammad Anwar had stated that the MQM had been getting funds from the Indian government.

Shahzeb Khanzada further said that a spokesman for the MQM, referring to Sarfaraz Merchant’s interview said he (Sarfaraz Merchant) had never been a member of the MQM. He is a common citizen and may have his own opinion. According the spokesman, the Metropolitan Police are investigating, therefore, there could be no comments on this matter.

Participating in the programme from London, the leader of Pakistan the People’s Party, Qadir Patel, said he would voluntarily appear before the Rangers, who have called him to appear on March 3. He said: “I cannot reach Pakistan so soon. I have a medical appointment on March 10 and will return to Pakistan as soon as I get the report.” He added:  “I will reply to whatever the Ranger ask me. I have clean hands and have no fear. I will not hide anything which is in my knowledge.” http://www.thenews.com.pk/print/102577-Rangers-summon-PPP-leaders-after-disclosures-of-Uzair-Baloch-Zulfiqar-Mirza
