RAB catches drug dealers sending ‘G-Ketamine’ to European countries

Report on bdnews24.com, Oct 25, 2017
The Rapid Action Batallion or RAB arrested three people and seized the drug and drug-making materials during a raid at Dhaka’s Pallabi on Monday.

The ring is associated with a Bangladeshi expatriate in Spain, RAB said.

The detainees are Mir Manjur Morshed Sunny and two of his accomplices – Mahmudul Hasan Chayan and Habibullah Khan. Sunny’s elder brother Mahadi Manjur Manna has been living in Spain for the last 15 years, according to RAB.

According to the elite police unit, G-Ketamine is in good demand in European countries along with cocaine and heroin.

“Their smuggling technique is also unique,” said Mufti Mahmud Khan, director of RAB media unit, adding, “They export towels laced with the drug.”

During the raid in Pallabi, the law enforcers seized 145 phials of 10-ml G-Ketamine, 34 towels each laced with 100 gm G-Ketamine and 180 empty Ketamine bottles.

He said out of 34 towels, 18 were seized from a courier service office. For the sake of investigation, RAB declined to disclose the name of the courier service.

Mahmud Khan said Sunny was known to be a farmer while Chayan and Habibullah worked in the marketing department at a bank.

About the technique, the RAB official said the drug smugglers used to take the lid off about 100 10-ml phials to empty the gas. They would then heat the drug in a steel bowl to make it more concentrated.

The next stage involved soaking towels in the liquid. The towels would then be folded and put in sealed packages for delivery.

The drug ring managed to send four consignments in the last two months, the RAB official added.https://bdnews24.com/bangladesh/2017/10/25/rab-catches-drug-dealers-sending-g-ketamine-to-european-countries
