RAB arrests suspected member of Neo-JMB at Dhaka’s Banani

report in bdnews24.com, Sept 18, 2017
Rapid Action Battalion or RAB has arrested a man at Banani in Dhaka suspecting him to be a member of the outlawed militant group, the Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh or Neo-JMB.

The elite police unit detained the suspect, identified as ‘Mahmud’ alias ‘Mishu’ aka ‘Helal’, at a travel agency, Musa International, on Sunday night.

RAB-11 Senior ASP Md Alep Uddin told bdnews24.com that former East West University student Mahmud was working as a receptionist at the travel agency.

He is accused in a case in Narayanganj’s Fatullah, according to the RAB officer.

Papers related to military training were found in his drawer at the travel agency and extremist books in his house in Manikdi in Narsingdi, Alep Uddin said.

Neo-JMB is blamed for the deadly attack on an upmarket cafe in Gulshan, an area near Banani in the capital, on July 1 last year.

The militant outfit is trying to regroup after a series of raids in recent times by the security forces in which most of their senior leaders were either killed or detained.
